Construction Updates for New Downtown Hospital

Upcoming Work

Two-week look ahead

Below is an outline of upcoming construction activity, road and walkway impacts.

Week of Feb. 21

Roads closed for utility relocation work

  • Missouri St. between 16th and 14th streets
  • Capitol Ave. between 16th and 15th streets
  • Intermittent lane closures are expected along Capitol Ave. between 15th and 14th streets.

The Methodist Hospital Emergency Department is accessible via the main entrance from 16th St.

South Campus building demolition

Rankin and 15th streets are closed between Senate and Capitol avenues. All sidewalks around the old South Campus site are closed. Pedestrians are directed to the west side of Capitol Ave. Intermittent lane restrictions are expected along Senate Ave. just north of 15th St. due to demolition activities. Flaggers will direct traffic as needed.

Capitol View telecoms

A road closure is expected along 15th St. between Capitol Ave. and Byram Pl. due to utility work. Intermittent lane closures are expected at 16th St. and Byram Pl. due to telecommunications work. Byram Pl. between 16th and 15th streets will be closed for the duration of this work. Byram Pl. will remain accessible to Two Sisters residents and U-Haul customers from 15th St. to the north and 14th St. from the south. Sidewalk closures are expected along the construction site, but Starbucks will remain accessible to pedestrians via the west sidewalk of Capitol Ave.

Medical records building demolition

Sidewalks around the old Medical Records site are closed. Pedestrians are directed to the west side of Senate Ave. Anderson St. is closed between Senate and Capitol avenues. The alleyway, one row of parking in the Starbucks lot and the Gregory & Appel parking lot are unavailable during construction.

Power duct bank installation

Lane closures are expected along Missouri St. between 14th and 15th streets. Flaggers will direct traffic as needed.

Henley LLR building demolition

Sidewalks along the north side of 13th St., between Senate and Capitol avenues and along Capitol Ave., between 13th and 14th streets will be closed.


Week of Feb. 28

Building On Our Promise

The new IU Health hospital in Downtown Indianapolis will combine adult services into one location with inpatient and observation beds, a full service outpatient center and a medical education building and on-site faculty offices.
